  1. Go to the System Settings in Control Panel, open the Hardware Manager and look for your sound device in the listings, if the device is not listed or has a yellow exclamation mark by it you need to re-install the drivers. You can do this anyway and if the hardware has a problem the driver will often not install correctly. If you have a sound card rather than onboard sound (or a laptop) you can remove the card with the PC switched off :-) and just re-seat it in the slot then reload the drivers if it hasn't sorted itself out. If you have onboard sound or a laptop normally a driver re-install is all you need to do.

  2. I'm assuming that you have a Windows PC. Right click on "my computer" icon, scroll down and then left click on properties. Click on the hardware tab and then click on device manager and select sound, video, and game controllers. If there's an asterisk by one of the components update the drivers or completely reinstall them.

Do you have a laptop or a desktop? Sometimes with laptops the jack where you insert your head phones or speakers just breaks from wear and tear. The same thing happened to me a few months ago so I just bought this, a external USB sound card adapter.

  3. first of all: are you the administrator (owner) of the computer?

    Second: are there multiple accounts?

if so try going into the administrators account, control panel, sound, etc.

if not, i would try running a diagnostics test. hope i could help

many time there will be a # on the comp. that you can call for support.

  4. It sounds like the sound card isn't being detected or the drivers are not installed.  Did it USED to work?

    1) Make sure the sound card is enabled in the BIOS/CMOS.  Have a tech friend help you out on this one.

    2) Make sure the proper drivers are installed.  Right click on My Computer, click on Manage, click on Hardware, go into Device Manager and expand out "Sound and Video Game Controllers".

If you see any yellow exclamation points, you have a problem.  If it's disabled, enable it.  If you don't see a sound card, install the drivers.
