Question:

HELP! What to wear to a Blockbuster interview?

This is my first interview for my first potential job. Also, the manager and some of the employees have already seen me how i look day to day from going in there asking about my application and whatnot. So it feels wierd going in there looking "different" for an interview. (That proabably doesn't matter, it just feels wierd)

I know that jeans are a no-no. I have no slacks or dress pants (maybe i can sneak in my sister's closet and get a pair of hers :) ) or what about skirts? There not professional skirts, more like everyday right above the knee skirts in cottony flowy material: a blue casual one with two pockets in the front and a brown dressy one. And what about shoes? I have no button down blouses. I have two dressy shirts but there a bit much for an interview I feel!

GAH! I'm a mess! I'm so scared I will go there tommorow either dressing too professionally or too down! HELP! XD

  1. just relax wear a polo and kahkis casual and dressup and the same time with black or brown shoes depending on the color of the pants and polo

  2. If the Blockbuster employees generally wear skirts, then wear a skirt.  If they normally wear khaki pants, then wear those.  Think about how they look at work then do that or take it up just a notch.  What about a polo shirt?  As far as shoes go, wear a flat or a low heel.

  3. You will be fine, since it's not a huge company don't overdue it by dressing up too nicely.  I would recommend maybe a skirt and a nice shirt.  Just wear something that you would wear to church.  You don't want to wear a suit though or something that dressy.  I'm sure at blockbuster it will be a very casual interview, just be very confident and don't doubt any of your answers.  Good luck, I'm sure you will do great!

  4. I used to work at Blockbuster for a while and it was the first job that I'd actually looked for myself (my jobs previous to that all just fell conveniently in my lap one way or another!).

It really depends on what position you're looking for. If you're looking to be a general associate than something casual but work appropriate works. You'll probably be wearing a polo shirt as a uniform (I think that's still their uniform, but I could be wrong), so if you have any polos that would be good. Just nothing low-cut. It's okay that the people have seen you in your everyday clothes, that's not an issue really. If the same people will be interviewing you than showing up to the interview dressier than you were when they first saw you will be a positive sign for them! A skirt may be a little too casual, and if you can borrow dress pants from your sister that would be a safe bet. Shoes shouldn't matter too much, just as long as they're not strappy stiletto's, I'm sure you can get away with black sneakers or something. The position I applied for was a sales manager position, so I went with something more business casual, and that worked out for me.

One of the folks above states that you can never overdress for a job interview, and that's generally true. Take my word on that because currently I'm working as an assistant staffer at a staffing firm. We get a few interviews daily and at some of our recruiting events we as a team can interview over a hundred candidates, and it's always impressive when someone dresses in a suit interviewing for one of our positions in the light industrial industry (casual dress is generally acceptable for those types of interviews).

So just be sure that you feel comfortable with what you're wearing. It'll help considering interviews, especially you first ever interview, can be really nerve-racking. Just remember to be yourself and be confident in yourself and you'll do great! The work at Blockbuster is easy-peasy.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you get the job!

  5. nice top, nothing revieling and slacks/ dress pants, i wouldnt recommend a skirt, nice shoes pref. flats

  6. Well, you will be wearing a uniform at your actual job so don't worry to much.

I would wear a very nice pair a pants (even jeans) and a cute top.

  7. black or white button up slacks and a tie.....

  8. Caaaalm doooown! :)

For a job like this you don't have to dress too formal. Think about what they are looking for. They want someone who is good with people. So they want to see a bit of your personality. They don't want you to be a boring suit.

By the same token you don't want them to think your not serious about the job.

So look professional, but also fun. Keep a bit of yourself about you.

It sounds like you genuinely want the job and really, thats half the battle over. :)

Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

  9. I'd say black button up top and black dress pants

  10. I used to work at Blockbuster and what I wore was black dress pants and a nice top. You don't have to wear a business suit or anything like that but you shouldn't wear jeans and a tshirt.  Try to wear black pants or khakis and a nice top but not low cut or S****y.  If you're going for a skirt, make sure it's longer than your knee and that it is black or khaki.  Don't wear open toe shoes, make sure they cover your feet/toes.  Oh and don't wear a ton of make up.

    Good luck!

  11. You can never overdress for an interview.
