HELP! Why do I get this message when I use Internet Explorer 7?

Question

I either get a crash message saying "Windows Explorer needs to close...Do you want to send an error report" or "Data Execution Program sayin Windows Explorer has to close in order to protect data". When I click the red X at the top, the taskbar goes away, then comes back 5 sec later. I have Windows XP Home Edition. What can I do to get these messages to stop appearing?
