  1. don't know about the cave but the writing is called hieroglyphics,,,and they used the walls of the cave as they had no paper,,,later they used the papyrus reeds to write or draw on,,,the reason they drew pictures instead of words was due to the fact alphabets had yet to be "invented"

  2. Speleology.

These pictures were painted by prehistoric people, with no written language.

Would be artists who try for a front view of a charging buffalo, usually ended up dead.

  3. .In some caves there have been pictures of dinosaurs.

    Check that out.

  4. A person who studies caves is a speleologist. The scientific study of caves is called speleology (from the Greek words spelaion for cave and logos for study). It is a composite science based on geology, hydrology, biology, and archaeology.

This website talks about cave paintings influence on written word.http://www.sunysuffolk.edu/~chenq18/c1.h...

They drew the side because that is the full view and that is the area they would attack and kill.  You don't come at an animal from the front because it will see you and run.  You might want to come from the back if you are going to jump on it and kill it but you have to wrestle with the animal.  If you come from the side then you can get at the soft areas where the knife/spear will do more damage. There is a thought that the Neanderthal did jump animals to kill them which created injuries and short life spans whereas our ancestors took the side approach. This style has been successful even up till today. "Flanking maneuvers played an important role in nearly every major battle in history, and have been used effectively by famous military leaders like Hannibal, Julius Caesar, Khalid ibn al-Walid, Napoleon and Stonewall Jackson throughout history."

  5. My advice is to read on the internet about several of the most famous caves in Europe: Alta Mira and Lascaux. Archaeologists study cave drawings. These drawings are in many cases 20,000 years old or more. There was no written language at that that time, as far as we know, so there would have been no reason for them to write words. Drawings are mainly taken from the side, not the front, because it's easier to draw shapes that way--through outlines. Same reason why  on U.S. coins, faces are in profile rather than full-face.

  6. I guess the hunt was the big todo of that era.  So if they drew it it might have bolstered their confidence.  Also it might be their highlight real of some pretty impressive hunts.

  7. You're going to have to be a little more specific!
