Well, i was walking along my lake and saw three baby ducklings!

They were all cuddled together, and unfortunately one was dead...I didn't know where the mother was...she must not have been their, or these were late to hatch and she left them, but i picked them up, took them inside, and warmed them up. The only problem is...I have NO idea where to keep them, what to feed them, and how to keep them from pooping all over the place. So far, iv'e fed the two surviving ducklings nothing but a few small earthworms...please help me!!!

can you answer my other question?

  1. I've had this before, I rescued 6 from a extremely busy road, and their mum was nowhere in sight. We phoned up a local rescue center place and they said to offer then breadcrumbs, keep them in a warm place, and to keep a container of water in their enclosure (or whatever you have them in). You can't keep them from pooping everywhere. Put some straw, or bedding, newspaper, whatever you have under where their standing.

    Good luck!

And I would take them to the local rescue center when you can..they're better off there. :)

  2. feed them vegetation and they should be fine, make sure they are in a box big enough so they don't climb out.

  3. you could take them to your local bird rescue, or you could ask people at the pet store, a local veterinarian, try everything dont give up on these poor duckilings.

    hope i helped xD

    please check out my question.

  4. First, you will want to put them into water to see them swim BUT don't do that because the mother duck would normally coat them with a waterproofing oil she gets from a gland near her tail, and since you don't have that to waterproof them they will get wet, then cold, then get hypothermia, then die.

Second, at farm stores they sell chick starter food that you can buy to feed them. That is the best stuff to feed them. If you cannot get that then grind up some dry dog food so it is little crumbs and feed that to them along with a dish of water. Duck drink a LOT of water if you let them which would be okay but then they squirt it out the back of them quickly. So give them as much dog food crumbs as they will eat and limit the water to what you can stand. They will need water to wash down the food though. And duck love to eat slugs too and other bugs and little creatures.

Third, anyone who recommends feeding bread crumbs or bird seeds to ducks knows NOTHING about keeping ducks and would end up killing them. Bread crumbs have zero nutrition for ducks, so even though they will eat them they will die of malnutrition if they eat nothing else. There are NO ducks in the entire world who eat seeds. None. If they eat them then they shoot them back out the back.

  5. well, i'm not an animal lover but here's some tips:

Where to keep them: get a small cardboard box or whatever that you have in your house. You could also buy a bird cage at your local pet store (that's if you want to and if you want to keep them).

What to feed them: i think that you should also buy some bird seeds in your local pet store (or if you cant be bothered wasting money, i recommend that you should stick with the earthworm diet).

If you don't want to keep it, i think that you should give it to an animal adoption agency (if there's any) or again, in you local pet store.

  6. A VET might know what to do....

  7. hey you can buy at pet supplies stores a baby bird formular feed them that every three hours and put them in a box with blankets with a lamp over them at night for warmth no more than a 60watt light globe and have them near sum warter so they can learn to swim

    ok cheers hop ive helped.tegan

  8. I had baby ducks and used a plastic kiddy pool to contain them,  You can get duck food at a feed store.  Make sure they have plenty a clean water to drink.  Are you planning on letting them go when they are fully feathered?

  9. the ducklings were okay right where they were.  unless you are a licensed wildlife rehabber it is against the law for you to be in possession of them.  the mother would have been back.  she was probably chased off by the males which is a common occurrence.  please see websites below.
