Question:

HELP-cockatiel broke one of his wing feathers...and i dont know what to do!!?

my cockatiel hit his wing on something and now one of the feathers is kind of dangling off....it is the outer most feather on his right wing...it is not bleeding but he is holding his wing out a little bit now..he is trying to preen it or something...i have styptic, but it isnt bleeding...i dont have access to a car right now so i cant bring him anywhere...is there anything i should do?? like pull it out...but if i pull it out how do i hold him so he will not bite me because he doesnt like me to touch his wings....???

  1. dont pull it off otherwise it might cause him to bleed to death. let the bird get it out. if the bird holds his wing out for more than a day find someone who will drive you to the vets.


  2. try taking a bus to an avian but make sure on the journey you bird is not scared or jolted at any time if you can't take a bus then for the avian to come home  

  3. Don't pull it out - it would definitely bleed then and be extremely painful.

    Just gently cut the broken end off with a pair of clippers or scissors.  If it starts bleeding at that point - use the styptic powder you have to clot it, and it will be fine.

  4. clip it off and go to petsmart and get some vetwrap and use it for a couple of days . after that take it off and see how he is . I would also get the bird to an avian vet and make sure your bird did not break a bone in the wing . good luck .

  5. Never pull out a feather.

    Clip it off where it was broken and stop the bleeding with the styptic powder if necessary.
