  1. no, not really. some years winter sneaks up on me before I get winterized and my motors always seem to start and run the next spring.

the only caveat I would add is this one: if your lower unit has leaked and has water in the lubricating fluid, it should be changed so nothing can start rusting.

if there is anyway to run your engine with the fuel line unhooked until it runs out of fuel and dies that should be done to avoid getting old fuel contaminatint the carb.

  2. Hi there

No freezing problems but you need to check the lower unit for water that will pit bearings etc. Put gas stabilizer in tank and run through fuel system then out of gas. Run fogging oil through engine to prevent internal metal parts from rusting up and you should be set.

  3. If its indoors all I would do is change the oil in the foot.  Make sure you ran the gas out of the line.

It also depends on where you live.  I've seen people move from the north to the south and will still winterize.

  4. It will be fine for a single winter - no problem.  Just disconnect the fuel and run the engine dry.  2-stroke engines use a gas-oil mixture so the cylinders will be sufficiently lubricated to prevent corrosion for this period.

Changing the gear lube in the lower unit before storage is also a good idea.

  5. a good shot of fogging oil until engine stalls will protect cylinder walls and you will not have to worry about starting it to maintain lubricant coverage of cylinder walls.

  6. no but if u can hook up the gas and run it a couple seconds each month to keep it lubed. the purpose of winterizing is so the engine dont freeze.actually i wouldnt run it out of gas cause that would leave air in the carbs. even withh some kind of lube it will tarnish after time.(just thinking in theory)

  7. no,reason for winterizing is to prevent freezing and splinting  the         block . If you are storing it inside its not going to freeze.

  8. If its in the basement you have no need to worry about the cold. However if it will not be used for any length of time you should run some Stabil thru the fuel system and then run it out of gas. Stabil keeps the gas from gumming up or turning to varnish in the carbs.
