  1. www.veganwares.com - Australian online store -they make their own shoes. Supply ballet shoes etc

  2. I think thats awesome that you don't like wearing leather! pretty much every ballet store sales canvas ballet shoes wich is cotton as far as the sole goes... it's only a little leather and pointe shoes well idon't know of they make those when you get older you should invent somthing like that you would probably make billions!

  3. This is the information i found online from a blogger or something. There's probably a store near you that would do the same thing Kinney's does. I don't know where you live so i can't help very much further.

I've been veg*n for over 10 years, and a dancer for longer. I've always been faced with a moral dillemma when it came to dance shoes - ballet, jazz, pointe, character, tap, etc. Usually NO non-leather alternatives (other than patent leather tap shoes for kiddies and canvas ballet slippers/pointe shoes usually with suede on the soles.)

Recently, Grishko (www.grishco.com) began manufacturing 'vegan ballet slippers.' They are only available to retail distributers for order on their website, and I knew I could probably find them in NY with no problem, but I wanted to see what would happen in Indianapolis. There is one decent dance supply store in the city: Kinney Dancewear, family-owned. They're great people. They would all drive up to Ball State to fit the dance co. for shoes, etc. So I wanted to continue supporting them. I'm home on spring break right now ...so I go in, give them the product #, etc. and they immediately go on the website and try to order - didn't get through, but assured me that the order would be placed asap and without addtl charge to me. They'd never heard of vay-geen, as Mr. Kinney pronounced it, and I suggested that they post a sign advertising that they now offer a completely non-leather ballet slipper. He liked the idea.

yay, success in the land of meat and potatoes.

btw, discount dance supply (online retailer) offers an "economy" line of shoes - jazz, tap, etc. and a few of those are 100% synthetic.

    www.discountdance.com

also, an Austrailian vegan website sells ballet slippers as well - but from what I remember they were pretty pricey compared to grishko's 10-20 dollar range.
