  1. check out 'austinsturtlepage.com'

and tell us what he looks like  so we can give you the proper advice for that species,K?

Are you near water  or wooded area?

    I wish you luck.

Contact the “herpetologicalsocieties.com, for a turtle vet in your city and state

  2. the turtle was on a mission before you picked him up.  please return the turtle in the same area that you found him.  wild-caught turtles do not survive in captivity.  the turtle thanks you.

  3. Please take it to a park or a place nearby where there is a lot of shade and greenery.  We love your soft heart but it is a wild animal which can rustle up its own food if placed back in the wild.  It is not likely a snapping turtle unless there was a large body of fresh water around.  If there was then that is where it belongs.

  4. Well my dad found a turtle and he put like shredding like they put in rabbit cages in the bottom of this big ben like you use for storage and they fed it leaves and carrots and grass and lettuce and cabbige and stuff like that ! Hope i helpedd !

  5. The odds are pretty good that you have a snapper. There are only three species of turtle native to N.S., snappers, painted turtles, and wood turtles (which can look a lot like baby snappers). There is also the chance that you have an escaped or released turtle. Before you go any further, find out what kind of turtle you have. Snappers spend almost all their time in the water; paints bask; wood turtles are terrestrial except when mating. Make the wrong choice and you will kill it.

As far as food goes, you can feed it earthworms, soft-bodied insects, fishes (not goldfish), or strips of liver. Keep it in shallow water for now. Either pick up a field guide or post a picture or email a photo to me. The three native turtles are easy to tell apart with the right photos. (Incude one of the underside.)

  6. Their habitat is outside, where you should have left it.  It is a reptile, they are not dependent on their parents.  It will die if you keep it as a pet.  Let it go.

  7. DO. NOT. KEEP. THE. SNAPPING. TURTLE. Only if its snapping though. If it is, it will have ridges and exotic type coloring on its shell. If that is so, take him to a pond or lake. Put him by the waterside. If not, take him to a local pet store and ask them what type of supplies you should get for him. In the meanwhile for food, mush bannanas into tiny pieces for him or lettuce is also good.
