Im going on holiday tomorrow but I'm very nervous about taking off... I'm fine when we are in the air and landing but I get so scared i end up crying... the real problem is that i've been on a plane every single year of my life but I don't understand why im still so nervous... but i am also very scared of rollercoasters... could this have anything to do with it?

  1. yes it does because i have the same problem you are thnkoing that the landing is going to feel like the drop in the roller coaster and turbulence that it will be very scary for you but there is nothing to be afraid of i flew to cali in june although there was  turbulence i survived it and the landing didn't feel like a roller coaster (although it does mess with your head and your ears so chew somthing)

  2. There are indeed some parallels between roller-coasters and aircraft. Both involve significant amounts of potentially unexpected movement, although roller-coasters are much more dramatic than aircraft.  If you don't like being surprised by movement, you probably won't find these movements enjoyable.

Still, if your fear of flying is really getting in the way of your travel, you might consider undertaking some sort of counseling or enrolling in various FOF elimination programs.  Some airlines offer fairly effective programs for this purpose, although they are expensive.

  3. I used to be really scared when I was a kid too.

Then I started my new technique. After the air hostess goes by, I put on my MP3 player on a really great, fast-tempo song. Then I close my eyes and imagine I'm flying the plane or driving a really fast car. My stomach still drops a little bit when we take off but not by a lot.

I'm starting to enjoy the feeling, actually. It's a good rush. You should try doing it. It worked for me.

Edit: That's why I wait for the air hostesses to go by and sit in their seats. They only ask for you to stop using them because some MP3 players can conflict with their frequencies. But if you're afraid even of even that then yeah, I suggest counseling too...
