Whats the best way to permanently get rid of mold? We just bought a house and realized it smelled because the kitchen cabinets are molded on the inside. Should we just replace them or is there a way to clean them well enough that it will completely get rid of the mold?? HELP!

  1. No no no. You must get rid of the cabinets asap. Find the original leak and fix it. Toxic mold will kill you and/or make everyone totally sick inside your home.

  2. You can buy mould remover/treatment to remove the current cabinet problem but ofcourse this is not a permanent solution.

You need to find where the damp is originating from - I would use a Damp Meter (not expensive) - that would test the walls for dampness. Once you have found it then that would need to be treated.

  3. I would replace them...also I would get busy and look for more mouldy areas that may have been painted to hide the problem...see if you can find out why the cupboards are mouldy...hopefully it was just a tap or the kitchen sink leaking then thats OK, its an easy fix...

Its not a nice thing to do but people will hide problems with houses instead of fixing them and then sell it to someone else.

  4. Personally, I would have a house inspection done.

You could have mold elsewhere in the house, too, and not see it.  If there is moisture in the cabinets it is going to be elsewhere, too.

Mold is nothing to play with.  I would look for a mold remediation company in the yellow pages.  You just never know how far it has spread and it is unhealthy to live with.

  5. Washing them out with a 50% bleach mixture will kill the mold. Use a brush and get into all the cracks.
