program lasts for a month but only gives me one high school credit, accommodation is in a hotel, and theres lots of sight-seeing and a lil' recreational activivities on the side

program lasts for 3 months, it gives me 6 high school credits, but I would have to live with a host-family and there is not that much ''tourist-things-to-do like sight-seeing and recreational activities" instead u volunteer/work more (its Co-op basically)

I can't choose between A and B..HELP

I am also behind in my credits thats why I'm leaning towards B more, but A sounds more funner, since its gonna be in a hotel and all...

  1. Option B is better. You get to stay there longer, you don't have to live in a hotel...homestays are fabulous because anything you need, your homestay family can help you whereas living in a hotel you don't have that advantage..totally on your own in a foreign country. You get more hs credits...it is a co-op program which will look great to any universities you apply to because they don't just look at grades anymore. You will have the opportunity of learning the language because not only are you learning it in school but you can practice it at home with the family you are placed with. I believe that even with a co-op program you will have some free time to see the country and your host family can show you parts of the country that no tourist will ever get to see. :0) So if it was me choosing, definitely option B...

  2. Try to visit this website which I just came accross, a lot of information on study abroad, hopefully may help you:

  3. If you need the credits.. the answer is obvious.

  4. are you doing this for fun or HS credits? if fun do A if credits do B you always have your life ahead of you to enjoy life and relax.

  5. Studying abroad can be a great opportunity. I am a program advisor with Intrax Study Abroad and we are a company that offer Academic Year, Fall/ Spring semester, as well as summer study abroad programs to the Europe/Latin America/ Asia/ Australia and Africa for high school students. With our long-term programs (AY/Semester) students are living within a family homestay and attending a local high school to receive credits depending on homestay high schools okay. The focus of these programs is full immersion. With our summer programs, students get the opportunity to live in a homestay or dormitory, attend a language/culture school as well as participate on a variety of activities that allow them to explore the country. 6. It depends on the reason you wish to go. Quite frankly, I don't recommend either one. I recommend a semester or a year program. That way you get the full benefits of a cultural/language immersion program.

If you want fun, be a tourist. If you want to learn the language and culture, be an exchange student. Colleges and universities also love "real" exchange students and often offer preferred admissions and/or scholarship opportunities.

To be an exchange student, you need to find a certified program. You can do that at www.csiet.org. (www.csiet.org) You should also ask for a recommendation from your high school counselor. A program is only as good as its local representatives. AFS, Aspect, Rotary and YFU tend to be reliable almost everywhere.

If you wish to really check out a reputation of a program, you can also see how many times it's reported on the Committee for the Safety of Foreign Exchange Students site (i.e. You'll see AYUSA up there a lot).

Good luck and work out your reasons. Once you do that ... you'll know what to do!
