HELP my Directv HD Satelite isn't working?

I trouble shooted with Directv. They couldn't help. All my T.V. says is no satelite signal. nothing else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The problem seems to stem from outside. How do I check the wires to the satelite? I followed the cable around the house and didn't see anything disconnected.

  1. You might as well give them a call and have them come out.  You can realign your dish yourself for the Non HD channels but you will have to be EXTREMELY lucky to find the HD ones.  The HD spot beam is much smaller than the Non HD and even the DirectTV tech's have a meter they have to use to find it.

  2. The concept of the dish moving is valid however you can check that by going into the menu. Select set up > point dish.This will display a signal level meter. With the help of a second pair of hands, you can (slightly) move the dish and see if the signal gets better. There is also a switch mounted outside the house. The switch selects different satellites and is my prime suspect for failure. Unfortunately, if the switch has failed, there will be no signal. You will need an on site service call to troubleshoot and repair.

  3. Most likely problem is that the dish moved.  If there has been a recent storm, that could do it.  It doesn't take much to lose the signal completely.  The symptom is no signal on any transponder or cable.  You may have to call an installer to re-point the dish.

  4. If you pay for the $5.99 a month service fee, Directv should send someone out to your home for free.  If you have not subscribed to the service fee, call Directv up and do so.  While you have them on the phone when you sign up, tell them your situation with your current Directv setup and they will have a Technician come out to fix it at not extra charge except for the $5.99 monthly fee.
