  1. congratulations? lol

  2. Considering that she was mating with a male hamster, in all probability, she might be pregnant and about to deliver. It is very difficult to tell if a hamster is pregnant. Some clues include when she may be building a bigger nest, hoarding a lot of food in the nest, will eat and drink water more than usual and sleep a lot more if she is pregnant. In the last 4 days before delivery, she will look big in the belly and teats would be prominent. The gestation period is 18-24 days, so you will have a confirmation in a couple of days when she delivers.

Do not disturb her, let her handle everything herself. From your side, make sure you give her lots of clean food and water and supplement her protein intake by giving her hard boiled egg whites and little quantities of skimmed milk. Also supplement her regular food with pieces of fresh vegetables like carrots. Throw away any stale food after a day. Try to put the cage in an area where she has the least disturbance from noises and activities.

Since she is already going to deliver, you cannot clean out her nest for the next two weeks. However put in lots of unbleached / untreated toilet paper for her to make her nest help her with baby errands.

Separate the male from her since they can mate within an hour of her delivery and getting pregnant again is no good for her health.

Leave the cage undisturbed for 2 weeks (except to change the food and water) after the babies are born since any disturbance can irritate the mother and cause her to hurt her babies. Remember never to touch the babies for two weeks from the day they are born.

  3. She probably shouldn't be in the same cage w/ a male if she just had babies. (He might hurt them) Also I think that there is a time when they should be removed or she might hurt them.

  4. sounds like you have a hammy in hammy labour :D

just leave her alone and put her in a quiet and wll ventalited room to help with the birth, there will be bleeding as people do when they give birth so just leave her alone and wait a while before you check the bed for babies because if mummy smells you on her ypung she will think they aren't hers and kill and eat them, which is not good.

she will probably eat at least 1 of her babies because it is the runt of the litter or ill. our female ate 2 because one was the runt and the other was deformed i know that sounds mean but thats how nature does its stuff.

good luck with your babies and i hope you have fun with them :D

    bye xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
