And laptop just turned off. It wasn't out of battery or anything, the bottom was really hot s I think it might have overheated or something, anyway everything was gone when I turned it back on. The websites I could restore when I re opened fire fox but I dnt know how to get my unsaved work back.

ANY HELP PLEASE?!

  1. Medic, you won't be able to get that work - sorry

The laptop can shut off it overheats.

Under the laptop you should see an intake for a fan and behind it you should see an exhaust - make sure they are clear

Don't put your laptop on a bed, or sofa, or any cloth - keep it on a table so that there is circulation

Also get some compressed air in a can (computer shops or even home depot should have it) and when the computer is off blow into the exhaust in the back of the computer and on the fan - you'll be surprised how much dust is in there.  This causes the processor to get hot. It will work slow then crawl then stop.

The unsaved work you cannot get back with wordpad

Don't use wordpad. Get this: http://www.openoffice.org/

Download and install it  - its free and its an excellent piece of software

User the document editor and then set it up to auto-save

    Here is how: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki...

This way in the future you are totally safe

    Cheers

  2. word pad doesnt have an auto recover feature so start typing u can't recover it

  3. No way of getting it back from WordPad sorry....

Here's what I can help you with tho,

First try to clean out the fans of your laptop using some air cans and stuff to make sure you are getting enough air into the CPU and motherboard.

Next download OpenOffice from www.OpenOffice.org - Its freeware and its just like Microsoft office but for Linux. This way you wont have to waste money on Microsoft Office and it will automatically save your stuff if your system does crash and restore it when you restart your computer.

But Wordpad has nothing that can help you with that.... I'm sorry about that.

PS there are also little trays with fans in them that you can get to keep your laptop cool as well.

Also... when deciding best answer.... dont go for the guy that just repeated exactly what I said in a longer reply so he could steal best answer from me =P

  4. Unsaved work is totally gone by now. A US Security study put a figure on lost-power-hackable RAM into 10 minutes after that it is just gone.
