My dad has been trying to get his pool clean for 2 months now and nothing is working- it is dark green.

He's flocked it and shocked it - and used allgiside- and stuff for black algae- and back washed it and vacumned it and put chlorine in it- Really has tried everything that all the pool stores have told us and we are desparate for any advice-

My daughter 3rd b day is at their pool in 1 week and we don't know what to do besides drain the pool completely and start over (huge water bill then)

any advice would be so appreciate

Thank you

  1. Although he's probably screwed it up beyond repair ...

    * The pH and the dissolved solids must be correct or none of the treatments will work. And if you have a large algae problem, the pH will be hard to keep in control.

    * He needs to take a water sample to at least two pool supply stores and have it tested for pH and total dissolved solids.  Fix that - even if it means partly draining and refilling the pool - and then attack the algae.

    * If you are killing algae, you have to be fast between the killing and the filter running and removal of dead algae, because the decomposing algae act as food for more algae

  2. We had that problem one time we had so many chemicals in there trying to get rid of the green that a layer of foam would cover the pool when we turned on the pump. The pool looked like it had snowed on it.The thing that finally worked for us was something called Green To Clean. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be.

  3. I had the same problem!!don't bother with the shock or any of the stuff you have listed it makes it worse you have iron in your pool go to your local pool store and tell them you need a bottle of iron remover it cost about 18.00 but it works.good luck

  4. I think draining is really the only way in this case!

  5. It could be any number of things.

The best advice anyone could give you is this:  Call a PROFESSIONAL Pool man... not the kind that has a teenage kid vacuuming the bottom.. but the kind that Health Clubs would use.

This may be rust (which cannot be filtered out and will require that the pool is drained and the surface scrubbed with a mild solution of phosphoric acid and water... lots of work and new water.

    So call a PRO-Pool man.
