I used to run track back in high school and was fairly good running long distance. I'm 23 now and weigh 140 ( 5'7'').

I'm running a horrible 1.5 mile time of 14:50 seconds now. I've managed to get it down 1 min with in 2 days of hard workouts. I have 6 days to get it down to a better time. I've been running 1.5 mile, walking about 400 meters , sprinting 100m's then walking 200 m's about 4 times then running another 1.5 mile. I've done that the past 3 days. How can I improve fast?

  1. How much time do you need to cut? Is it for an academy? All you can really do is run.  You are pretty much doing the right thing. Try running 1 mile at a slightly faster pace, then sprint a 200, then run your 1.5 mile then sprint a 400.  Do this the first 2 days. Day 3, same distances, but pick up the pace on the mile and 1.5 miles. Day 4, 1.5 miles at 13 min, 200 sprint, 1.5 miles, 400 sprint. Day 5, 1.5 at 13.5, 200, 1.5, 400.  Day 6, 1.5 at 12min, 400 sprint, 1.5 mile, 400 sprint.  Scratch that walking 400. I have to echo what the last person said, DON'T hurt yourself.  If it's for an academy, it's not going to kill you if you don't make 12 min off the bat.  You will improve with in a short time. Good luck!

  2. run. alot.

like run a couple miles in the morning and then do a work out in the afternoon like do a tempo 2 mile and then some fast 800s, but dont over do it cuz you could end up hurting your self...
