Remember some basic rules:

*Whatever you do to one side of the equation/ inequality, you have to do to the other side.

*Ask yourself, &quot;What do I have to do to get the variable (letter) on its own?&quot;

*Combine like terms (e.g. a + 2 + 2a + 3 = 3a + 5)

a-7&lt; -9

When something is subtracted from the variable, you can add that amount to both sides to get the variable on its own:

a-7+7&lt;-9+7

a&lt;-2

5y 7/8(fraction) - something must be missing here

-4 - 6h - 5&gt; -3h + 3

You want to h terms on one side, the number terms on the other

add 6h to both sides and subtract 3 from both sides

-4 - 5 - 3&gt; -3h + 6h

-12&gt;3h

Then divide by 3 to get h on its own

-4&gt;h

h&lt;-4
