I have a 2000 mustang and the clutch cable went out. In the process of the mechanic fixing it they said i also messed up the neutral safety switch. Is that possible. Can the clutch cable going out have a bad affect on the neutral safety switch? I feel like he's s******g me. Would i be fine driving without it?

  1. you would be fine but remember that you don't have to press the clutch to start any more.

  2. He's s******g you royally.Find a more honest service person. You'll be just fine, just remember the rules of engagement.

  3. First off the neutral safety switch has nothing to do with your clutch. It's hooked to your brake pedal (NOT YOUR CLUTCH). Unless you're riding your brake the switch would not be an issue. You can drive without it but don't suggest it. You can run into other ,bigger, problems, like not being able to turn your ignition key to the start/run position. The safety switch hooks right behind the brake pedal, it just clips on and has a plug in. You can do it yourself (CHEAP!!!)

    Save the money for gas...lol

  4. First off...a manual trans doesn't have a neutral safety switch, it has a clutch safety switch.  It's usually located at the base of the clutch pedal, and all it does is make you depress the clutch pedal to the floor in order to start the car, to make sure you don't start the car in gear.  The car will run fine with out it...but you have to remember to depress the clutch pedal or put the gear shift in neutral before starting the car, or the car will move when starting it!!!
