HELP! "NTLDR is compressed"?

Question

I have a Gateway laptop, Windows XP.

I get this message when i turn on the computer and i get past it.

"NTLDR is compressed

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

When i press those, it just restarts and the message shows up again.

I know you can fix this by putting in an operating system disk, but it will erase all of my valuable data on my harddrive.

Is there a fix for this without erasing my stuff?
