HELP!......."The Life Before Her Eyes" ?

Question

Ok, I normally can figure out any other movie but I can't figure out this one. How does the life of the two females relate? Is she going crazy or are their lives connected some how? They change some of the scenes after you know that they are not the same person. Did Emma ever exist or was that all made up? Help!!! Lots of questions and no answers.

Diana got shot, they didn't reveal that till the end, because the whole part of, emma, the husband, and her adult life, were her imagining, as she died, what her life would have been like if she let her friend be the one to get shot. That's why when she went to the memorial she said she was not one of the survivors. When emma said that Diana hated her, and when she kept running away, and the cross with the name emma on it, were to represent the guilt Diana would have had for aborting her child. In her imagination she would have married the professor, that's why she saw herself with him at the end before she got hit by the car. At the moment of the shooting her life was flashing before her eyes, and she saw that when she would grow up, she would never get over the guilt of lettting maureen sacrifice herself. I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, but it's hard to explain. lol

i loved this movie.

ok, the main character (i don't remember her name) got shot at the school shooting, and she was seeing her "life before her eyes". she was seeing her life as she would want it to be when she grows older. her friend, the brunette, lived. the blonde died. the end.

it IS kind of confusing, but if you think about it you'll understand. :)
