  1. I would say Des Moines just because I lived there and it was windy just about everyday, however I've never been in Denver for more than a few hours.  Des Moines is extremely windy throughout most of the year due to the flatness of the plains.

  2. According to the National Climatic Data Center, based on available records through 2004 (sorry, I only have a 2006 World Almanac; you can look in a newer edition if you wish) The avg. wind speed for Denver was 8.6 mph with a max of 47 mph.  The avg for Des Moines was 10.7 with a max of 76 mph.

The windiest place (nopt a city) in the country for this time period was the top of Mt Washington, NH with an avg 35.1 mph and max of 231 mph!!

If you don't like wind much, go to Los Angeles which had an avg of only 5.5 mph.

The windiest city on average was Casper, WY at 12.7 mph.

Chicago, which calls itself the "Windy City" has an avg of 10.3 and a max of 58.
