my dad is almost 60, and he has his wisdom teeth still, with no problems whatsoever. my mom still has them too, but they never grew in (she's almost 55), neither did her other molars next to those (she told me)

but my orthodontist says that since mine didnt grow in yet, and theres "no room for them", they should be removed. but my parents didnt have a problem! without asking first, he already was planning an appointment with some specialist for the surgery. wtf is it just for profits or something?

answers other than just "do as he says" would be appreciated:)

  1. they are probably just scammers.

or he is trying to do this for the best

i have to get all four of mine out tomorrow

i made them dhow me proof of why i had to get them out.

that is what you should do.

be like i need proof, I'm sorry , and tell them your parents situation and I'm sure they would be glad to show you why,

    i hope that helped

  2. first of all, dentists only make money if they can find something wrong with you and then remove/fix the problem. i know that there are honest ones out there but  you can't be sure. i would talk to your parents and tell them what the dentist said and what you think. if you can get them to agree, tell the dentist that he/some specialist isn't  PULLING anything out  until you know for sure it is necessary. ask him to explain in detail why they need to be pulled. he will probably end up just being full of c**p. but idk

  3. There's no guarantee that because your parents didn't have problems with their wisdom teeth, you won't either. My mother didn't have any but I had one and it needed removed.

What the orthodontist probably means by "there is no room for them" is that when the wisdom teeth grow in, they will cause crowding (they'll slowly push the rest of your teeth together), making it difficult for you to floss and causing pain.

I recommend talking to your parents about what the orthodontist said and remember that everyone has a different mouth, so everyone has a different situation.

    I hope that helped!

  4. Just because your parents didn't have a problem with their wisdom teeth doesn't mean that you will be as lucky.  You run the risk of ruining thousands of dollars of orthodontic treatment if your wisdom teeth try to come in and move teeth.

  5. The first answer is correct.  If you have had braces, your teeth are in alignment, you may not have room for wisdom teeth to crowd your other teeth.  Also, your orthodontist does not get any money for referring you to someone else.  If you would like to, get a second opinion.  What does your general dentist say?  If you feel strongly that surgery isn't necessary, just get a second opinion.  If that dentist does agree with your orthodontist, then you definitely should consider it.
