i have a sony XM9011GTR mono 1300W 2-channel apmlifier that is powering two 10 inch subs. there are a few settings on this amp that i cant get right. the subs sound excellent with rap and r&b but with rock they sound really distorted. i sont want to loose the bass with the rap but i want rock song to hit cleaner. there is a gain setting that i have 3/4 the way up, a subsonic filter at 20hz, a bass boost that is only turned up a little, and a LPF at 87-85. what can i do to help it sound better?

i previously had another amp(that burned up) and they sounded good but i cant get the settings right with this new amp. any advice?

  1. im going to say that your gain setting is up way too high and your low pass filter may be a little too high.

  2. The gain is the most important to set right to prevent damage.

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php...

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.

If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g

  3. 100hz is a good place to put the lpf, turn of the bass boost that just means instant distortion and probably reset the gain.
