Hey there

So I went to get my credit report off of the Equifax site. when I filled out the application, I received a message saying that there was a problem processing my request and/ior verifying my id, and to contact Equifax.

I caled Equifax, when I give them my SIN number, they say they have a completely different name coming up under it. They told me to fax in a bank statement and drivers license to rectify the issue.

I faxed the info away a few days ago and have heard nothing.

I was just wondering how this can negitivly impact me. Equifax either says "it could" or they are "not sure" when I call them.

I applied for a furniture credit card the other day..I got declined and then 5 seconds later, the store clerk was suprised, as I suddenly was approved.

Same issue at WALMART. I applied for a credit card there,. got declined, but received a WALMART credit card a few days later in the mail.

Do you think that has anything to do with it?

THANKS!

  1. If you suspect that someone is using your Social Insurance Number:

    http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/sin/fr...

  2. Your SIN (social insurance number) is linked to your name, and unless you've given them the wrong one you NEED to follow up with both Equifax and Transunion to ensure that your SIN is not being used by someone else.

    Equifax:    1-800-465-7166

    http://www.equifax.ca

    Transunion: 1-800-663-9980

    http://www.transunion.ca

You got the credit you applied for, which is good, but make sure that someone else isn't taking advantage of your SIN and go over those credit reports thoroughly.

    Good luck!

  3. 1st--it's SSN (Social Security Number).

it may have been a typo somewhere along the way and that's why different name. It could have been identity theft. If this is the case, you have taken a good first step--notifying the credit bureau.

Now, contact Experian and Transunion. you can order reports for them through www.annualcreditreport.com

As for being initially declined in a store and finding out later approved--This happens alot. Just because instant credit was denied, doesn't mean that you will not be granted a credit account with that company. Sometimes they just want to review the information. It could have been for any reason.
