HELP with this tutorial???!!?

at the very bottom (last steps) it asks you to chose between "select by color" and/or "select manually" i picked "select manually" and on the drop down menu on one of the steps it asks me to choose the layer mask thumnail then erase but i tried to erase and it wont let me.

please helP!!

I see your problem!

The tutorial is wrong.  Its asking you to erase on a layer mask and you cant do that.  

Once you have that white layer mask selected then pick a brush and select black as the colour.  Now paint on the image with black (which paints away the white mask) to reveal the colour from the layer underneath.

Remember: White conceals - black reveals.
