  1. Call the Landlord soon.

    Get an Exterminator.

  2. Boric acid.  It comes in various forms.  It would be best to get it in a form that the cat & baby can't get at.  Otherwise put it in cabinets and other places they don't get into.  The ants love it and take it back to the nest to feed the queen.  It may take awhile for all to die.  Meanwhile I vacuum them up.  they can't get back out of the vacuum.  The big flying ants are queen so be sure to get those.  I find them on the windows trying to get out at dawn.  First come the small winged, those are the males, then the queens come out.  In the evening the cleanup crew comes out to gather the dead males and the wings of those who mated. (after she is fertilized the wings fall off the queens)

  4. black ants are hard to kill and they sting very bad. They also eat the wood in your home. I have used spectracide to spray them. You almost have to just spray it on them. But this is toxic. You may want to have your house sprayed by terminex or ortho.
