I have a pretty basic setup anyone would have in an apt. Microwave in kitchen..air conditioner in living room. First if you have the ac on with the microwave power shuts off. Now comcast came yesterday and installed the internet and phone. Theres an outlet there..one of them has a power surge thing with all the outlets filled which means telephone power chord, computer power, shredder power, printer power, etc each outlet is filled..the other one next to it which is in the same outlet is the air conditioner..soon as you turn on the airconditioner the lights get dim and then the tv goes out then the entire power gets shut off..is there too much plugged into this outlet in the bedroom. I'm trying not to call an electrician because I believe it can be arranged different possibly. Please help because me and my girl just want a normal life where we can be on the computer as she watches tv. If i go back into the basement to move the breaker one more time im going to electricute myself

  1. If you have more than one circuit, try to get the computer on it. The more you have on a single circuit the more dangerous it becomes. This is definitely one of those time you really do need to call and electrician.

  2. Sorry, but this sounds like a job for an Electrician. If you only have one socket circuit in your apt. you could probably do with another one added.

  3. Your apartment building has outdated and undersized electrical circuits.  There's not much you can do unless the building owner upgrades the entire system. The air conditioner should be on it's own dedicated circuit, as should the kitchen appliances.  Since you can't use one without the other blowing the circuit, that tells me they are on the same circuit & it is overloaded.  I'm guessing the building was built way back in the day before we had 99 things to plug in & it hasn't been upgraded since.  Calling an electrician will get you the same result - he'll recommend having the electrical system upgraded as rearranging how things are plugged in will just get you the same end result - overloaded circuits.  If the building owner isn't willing to do anything about this potentially serious problem, you may want to consider moving to a newer apartment building before this place goes up in smoke due to an electrical fire.  Consider buying renter's insurance in the meantime.
