HELP!!My son of 3 years is VERY SENSITIVE all of a sudden. Does this have to do with me not being with his mom

WE BROKE up while she was pregnant. So my son has NEVER seen us hugging and kissing. We live complete separate lives. We have never lived together (3 of us).

My baby's mother and I have a GREAT RELATIONSHIP. Absolutely no drama between us. We broke up in good terms. Rare, I know, but if you look at it this way: WE LOVE HIM TOO MUCH TO CAUSE PAIN TO OUR SON.

well anyway, ALL OF SUDDEN he has been real sensitive. He was crying about a rolly polly he found on the floor that he didn't want to let go. He cried about a feather that flew away and said that he's looking for his mommy. These are not the "crazy crying"....its the soft sad crying like if your trying to keep it in. IT HURTS ME SOOOOO BAD.... do you think it's because me and his mom are not together? But he has never seen us together....so I don't know.

Is this normal for a three year old? he will be 4 in dec.

I have a girlfriend that my son knows and he loves her too. His mom has met my girlfriend also...and we all get along. There is no animosity between anyone. Good environment. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what can we do to help him? should i spend a day with him and his mother so that he can see that we both love him?? Another problem would be my girlfriend. I don't think she'll like the idea, but I want my son to see that both his mom and me love him.

your advise is greatly appreciated.

  1. Aw that's so cute. I think you need to sit him down and have a good talk with him about his feelings. Ask him what's making him so upset and why is he crying so much. Also ask him what would make him feel better. Kids at that age are very honest and will tell you exactly what he's feeling. Good luck!

  2. My son is also 3 and going through the same emotions... My husband is in the army, he's been gone since October. There are times that I wonder if he's having seperation issues it seems as if he is just heart broken? His father was home last month for a couple of weeks and I noticed it hadn't stopped, kinda relieving.... So I'm pretty sure its just a stage.. I tell my son that it okay to cry and let it out. It'll make him feel better. When he's done we talk about why he got upset and I explain to him that he doesn't need to. Yes my son too has cried over rolly pollies along with grasss hoppers and lizards.. lol. All we can do is let them cry and explain... I personally think in these situations that they need our reassurance and understanding... It only takes a minute to hold our children and let them know that everything will be okay.. Good Luck with your son and I commend you and your sons mother for doing it together!

  3. no you cannot upset the girl friend unless you want to lose her. 3 year olds do go through strange behavior just go along as you have been as it sounds fine. He has to learn that he needs to do things for himself so do not spoil him by being over protective. If any one needs spoiling it is the girl friend as she is grown up and can handle it !

  4. It could have to do with you two not being together and it could be him just being a three year old. Why don't both of you sit down with him and talk to him. Ask him his feelings. He isn't too young to understand.

  5. I find boys are more sensitive at that age anyway

you are doing a great thing for him by keeping a good relationship with his mother well done

Maybe a family outting all together might work Include your girlfriend if it would work so he can see everyone loves him

I wouldnt be overly concerned at this age but it may become an issue when he starts school and his friends have both mummy and daddy at home

Maybe he might be just wantting more cuddles , sometimes boys get less snuggles and cuddles coz they are boys and need to be strong but really he is just a baby

just love him and make sure he knows you love his mummy even if you are no longer in love with her
