okay so I'm 15. and i'm officially freaking out. the flight is this sunday! i'm flying to CT from Dallas,TX but it's a connected flight and I will have to fly to NC first. Once i'm there I will have to change planes to go to CT. i've flown before but never changing planes. i've got a couple of questions:

1)luggage? it's the same airline all the way. will i still have to pick it up when i get to NC and then re-check it for my new flight?

2)do i have to go through security again to board my other plane to CT?

3)do i get both of my tickets at the first airport in Dallas? or will I have to get a new ticket at the NC airport?

4)i only have 45 mins between the time i land at NC and the time i leave for CT. will that be enough? how do I know where to go?

thanks sooo much!

  1. Everything need to be done on the first airport at the time of check-in:

*Make sure your luggage is checked in all the way to your final destination. Usually they do but just make sure.

*Ask them to assign you seats for both flights and request your boarding pass for both flights (if they don't want insist and tell them you only have 45 mins connection) if they don't want ask for a supervisor and they will. Make sure you know the gate number of the second flight.

*you only need to go through security on the first airport.

    * try to get a seat close to the gate (ask for this on the first airport and tell them the reason, sometimes they help)

    * once you arrive to your first airport try to find the gate that they indicate when you checked in.

If you feel overwhelmed or stressed or frustrated, there's always at the end of the tunnel an employee of the same airline, ask her/him where's the terminal or gate where the next flight leaves, show him/her your boarding pass and if you feel confused tell them to take you over there.

Then you just use the boarding pass you were given at the first airport, sometimes they will change your seat while you're waiting but dont worry, at least you made it.

don't worry time is enough. if the airline for any reason gets delayed and you're unable to connect, they have the responsibility to put you in an alternative flight or pay for a night hotel stay in case there's no additional flights.

You always need to get this (actually demand for this) with a supervisor.

so make sure you have the first 2 steps and you're ready to go.

you need to pick up your luggage only at the final destination.

Good luck, relax and enjoy your trip.

  2. Your luggage will automatically be taken to your connecting flight for you(unless you are flying on 2 seperate tickets, but that is quite rare)

And, no, you should not have to go through security a second time. As far as your tickets go, they will more than likely be E-Tickets(simply meaning that there is not an actual paper ticket.  Your reservation information is stored in airline computers).

45 mins may be pushing it a bit, but you should be fine.  If you are worried about this, when you check in for your flight in Dallas, ask the agent to put an OSI line in your record stating that you need assistance to the gate at your connection.  Most airlines will gladly provide assistance.

  3. 1. They should move it for you to the new plane directly

    2. No, you stay in the secured terminal

    3. Yes, they'll give both of them to you before your first flight

    4. When you get off the plane, there are tv screens with your departing flight. It tells you what gate it is leaving from.

If you have 45 minutes, that gives you about 15 minutes to walk to your next gate. Sometimes, its in another terminal, which means you need to hustle.

I've been in situations where the first flight was late and we Sprinted to the next gate and just barely made it.

You can always ask people at the gate for assistance (Or other random passengers).
