These tiny kittens are only about 5 weeks max, and they all have fleas, really bad. What can I do to safely get rid of the fleas. I know they r too young for regular fleas treatments is there any alternatives?

  1. Take it 2 a vet and see what they have 2 say!!!

  2. Contact your vet.  In severe cases many vets will recommend Advantage in smaller than normal doses to young kittens of fleas.  Advantage is generally considered safe even on much younger kittens but shouldn't be used except under the advice of a vet.  This is the quickest way to get rid of the fleas which is important since young kittens are very prone to flea anemia.   Otherwise the safest thing you can do is use a flea comb and a bowl of soapy water to rinse the comb in.

  3. The best thing to try for kittens that young is green palmolive dish soap. I have checked with my vet before and they said to use the green, they dont know why but it works the best. And yes you are right 5 weeks is way too young for any flea treatment.

The best time to start flea tratment ie: advantage,or baths is after 10 weeks. Just make sure you keep in on the fur at least 5 min and then rinse very very well. Hope it works!

  4. The best thing that I have found to treat kittens of that age with is washing them in warm water with Lemon Joy. After doing that, sprinkle Borax on all your carpets, upholstery & beds. Make sure you move the kittens into a bathroom or such while doing that. Then wash anything fabric - sheets, pillows, etc. in HOT water. I've even gone as far as literally vacuuming my beds as well. Vacuum up the Borax after about 12 hours and throw out the bag. At night, put a bowl of Lemon Joy and water (about 50/50) under nightlights.

It's not the "quickest fix" but it will help get rid of them in about 48-72 hours, and not all of them. You'll have to continue to do this about every week until the kittens are about 8 weeks of age, when they can start topical treatments from the vet.

Check with your vet as well, and see if they have any ideas of how to help.

    Good luck!
