OKAY in politics. I need to do a speech on this.

It might be helpful if your doing a speech on politics to use some examples from conflict theory. A rather simple way to look at it (if you arent aware of the theory) is that groups of people often compete against one another in order to advance their interests. This tends to mesh rather well into how most of us view politics, especially in an era where people talk a lot about special interests groups.

Some of the ideas i would hit on are as follows: 1)people who are financially better off tend to have more resources at their disposal to help advance their interests (either through campaign financing or through lobbying) 2)people who have more wealth often are thought to have a greater sense of connection about their interests to their peers than other groups of people (this may be more of a belief than a truism) 3) Especially regarding conflict theory people who tend to be in influential positions have a say over how issues get discussed and organized. If you are someone who is in the discussion about a particular issue, you have a great deal more control over how that is shaped than a person who is not in the room so to speak. 4)People who are shaping policy tend to put the own interests first and other groups interests only secondarily (this would seem to be true for any group of people) 5) with limited resources, if the influential group of people is wealthy, they are going to get the resources and programs that benefit them and this will have a negative affect on the people who are not part of that group.

Importantly, try not to cast the big rich men as pure evil in your speech. Its not really true and ive rarely heard the argument made without the individual not looking very bright.

It has to do with the activity of the interaction in the area of industry that is the focus of their effort.  For instance, the big boys that control the fashion industry collaborate so that industry remains in their control.  The same with movies, and TV, and medicine, and engineering.  If you want to escape the influence you perceive they are using to thwart your effort, then you have to find others who are interested in the same thing you are, and have brain picking meetings.  As far as politics go, in my mind there is no such thing as an honest politician.  I believe most of them who enjoy upward success are sociopaths.  You have to be aware of what they say, how they voted on bills, the deals they made with other politicos that were responsible for their bills to slide under the doors.
