I put it in there for the algea eater. But he went in there and got stuck. Well i got him out and there was a cut on his top side from him struggling. He didnt really swim. Now he is swiming and all but I dont know. Can someone help me what to do. Like medicine for his cut or how to save him.

  1. True, melafix is a good thing for cuts. But instead of treating your tank with chemicals I suggest adding aquarium salt. This is a natural healer and GREAT for cuts. As anyone knows, washing your cut in the ocean will help kill the germs and help it heal faster.

And as the others said, clean water clean clean clean!

The salt and the clean water will help your betta recover quickly.

You should add 1 Tablespoon per 5 gallons of water, I dont know how big your tank is, but if you have a pleco I would assume it's big since pleco's need at least a 55 gallon tank to grow in.

You should remove the pot and get a proper cave for your pleco that the betta cannot get stuck in.

No worries, it happens sometimes, there's no way you could have known he was going to get himself stuck in there.

Poor thing, Good thing you got up early or he might have drowned!

I hope everything goes well and he heals quickly!

  2. Well, I am a HUGE animal lover, but I don't think even a vet could do much for the little guy.  I am so sorry to hear about your fish.  Please keep us updated on how he is.  I know it is "just a fish" but all life is precious!  I cried when my fish died, he was a betta too, but he died of old age.  God bless you and good luck :)

  3. Remove all tanks decorations or even driftwood till he's better. Increase the water filtration if possible as he need to swim to the water surface for air. As ya know, fishes need to swim for their oxygen.

    Well... it should survive.

Let it rest and hope the best.

  4. I would go to the aquarium and get some fish antibiotics, separate him off if there are other fish in there and treat him while the cut heals. There are a lot of different bacteria/fungi in fish tanks and he may get an infection. The common one is called Melafix

  5. hey so sad that your betta died.I love them .Get another one be sure not to harm by anything and only provide CLEAN water .Luck for another  :)

  6. bring it to the vet

  7. Take him to a vet!!!

    otherwise...idk

  8. Plug up the hole, you are not the first, nor will you be the last, to get a betta stuck in a bit of decor. They really don't know their own size.

As for the injury, keep the water quality immaculate with regular testing and partial water changes. You can add meds such as Melafix to ward off any infection.

  9. Yeah, take him to the vet.

Or you can wait 1 or 2 days. If he gets better, then everything wil be great.

Please give him absolutely clean water within these 2 days..

Let's report the girl who say "what's a betta".. report her as abuse..

  10. He will be fine!

    just let him swim.

  11. What's a Betta? Seriously people, why answer if you don't know what is going on. Sheesh.

I have had many Betta fish over the years and enjoyed all of them. They really are such wonderful friendly fish aren't they?

Anyhow, please keep his water VERY clean. Do partial changes, not full changes or you can "shock" him. Change out 1/4 to 1/3 of his water every day for the next few days, it will keep him cleaner but not make him sick from a sudden change.

You can buy some relatively inexpensive antibiotics from the pet store for him as well. Ask for help in the aquatics section of the pet store, they will have info on which one they think is best.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot of treatment for our fishy friends. Most regular vets offices don't treat aquatics, you would have to find a specialty vet and even then most of them don't accept small fish like a Betta.

Hopefully he will heal up and do just fine. Best of luck!

  12. you probably could take it to a vet, but not all vets cater for fish, and it's a lot of money (usually). a betta is a fish. here in australia many people don't know that Betta's are the same thing as siamese fighting fish.

now, onto the actual question. i would administer some meds to help fight off infection. melafix does a great job of this, or so i have found from past experiences. watch out for any fungal or bacterial infections, both now and in the near future. keep the tank very clean and do not skimp on the weekly water changes/gravel vacuuming. try your best not to overfeed it. try not to stress it out too much by any means, too much stress can lower it's immune system.

it could just be that he is resting. check the temperature of the tank. if it's too cold (which it probably shouldn't be if you have a heater) he's probably just resting to preserve his energy.

if his condition worsens then describe his symptoms in a new question, but in most cases like this, the fish heals just fine.

    best of luck :)
