when buying RAM for a motherboard

what do you need to know before hand ?

the number of pins?

tha clock speed ?

do i need to know if the clock speed of the RAM is compatible with tha bus speed of my motherboard ?

  1. the 1st and most important thing: what type of ram is it... DDR/DDR2/PC? Then you should check what memory speed your Motherboard supports... and go for the according clock speed. Also, if you are buying additional modules to increase the memory when there are already existing modules in the system, you should get the memory with the same clock speed (and preferably timings as well, but i won't go there :D)

  2. you should know what kind of memory your motherboard supports. Read the manual, it'll clearly tell you what kind of memory you want to buy.
