HElp with prime numbers!?

ok from what I know prime numbers are numbers that can be divided by itself and i! but i dont understand then why 6 isnt a prime number or why every number isnt a prime number because they all can be divided by themselves and 1! 6/6 equals 1! can somebody please explain this better or tell me what im doing wrong!

  1. Prime numbers can ONLY be divided by themselves and 1.  

    6 isn't a prime number because, while it CAN be divided by itself and 1, it CAN ALSO be divided by 2 and 3.  This is why it isn't a prime.  


  2. I'll give you examples.

    Seven is a prime number because the only numbers it can be divided by are one and itself.

    Six is NOT a prime number. It can be divided by one and itself, but also by two and three.

    If a number can be divided by more numbers than just itself and one, then it isn't prime.
