go to hotjobs.com, monster.com, careerbuilder.com to find positions/companies.  are you talking about northern or southern california? HQ of gap/br/oldnavy is in SF and there is burton in Irvine.  I don't remember exactly what "fashion" companies are where but don't forget entertainment companies like disney, warnerbros and universal also sell apparel so you will find internships there.  Usually larger companies have more formal internship programs and there are deadlines for applications.  go to the company's career website and usually internships are under "career".  Good luck!
