Buy UK over US or Japan.  Look at Mission, Quad, KEF, Wharfedale, or B&W.

Try Athena, PSB, and Boston Acoustic, maybe JBL's & DCM's too. You should be able to find a good deal from any of these brands at BestBuy or mail order/ online that will work for you.

I've heard of many class distinctions in my time, but never which speakers to use on a sound system.

I have some OPTIMUS LX-10s that I bought from someone used for 50 bucks. They have ribbon tweeters and sound fantastic, and many reviews consider them entry level HI-FI. Somewhat difficult to find though as they are discontinued.

If you can find them ,,,,, B. I .C .   Venturea'  7 speakers.. I had a Marantz 4300 & 5100 (?)  4300 gave clean crisp sound , and were rated when turnt' all the way to #8 on volume control,, they were rated to give the same decible rating as a jet air planes take off,, still holding ,crisp  clean  sound.. I have always liked Marantz  stereo equipt..  Now I run ,Bang & Ollfsson equipt.
