  1. i have a 5week old baby who was 8weeks early he is on 53mls every 3hours congratulations!

  2. i had 2 babies born at 33 weeks, (NOT TWINS) they both used to take about 3 or 4 onzes every three or four hours!

  3. You should always go by age now not by how old they would be (if you see what I mean!) So he should be drinking the same amount of formula as a 4 week old.  Just check the tin.

  4. I would of said between 2 to 3 ounces every three to fours hours then gradually give more try 2 at first then if the little one drinks it all add another ounce

  5. you didnt say how much he weighs but formula is determined by weight for instance if you have an eight pound baby, he needs 19 oz of formula a day, you would divide that into the number of feedings (10-12 is normal)

    so normally a 4 week old baby at 8 lbs that eats every 2-3 hours would take 1.5 -2oz at each feeding

    a 10 lb baby would eat 2.5 oz

    a 12 lb baby would eat 3oz

    Energy RDAs for healthy, full term infants are as follows:

    Age Energy Recommendations (kcal/kg/d)

    0-6 months / 108

    6-12 months / 98

    1-3 years / 102

    To Provide 108 kcal/kg/d

    Infant's Weight Expected Total Daily Intake (in ounces)

    Pounds- kg- 20 kcal/oz

    4.5 / 2 / 11

    6 / 2.7 / 15

    8 / 3.6 / 19

    10 / 4.5 / 24

    12 / 5.5 / 30

    To estimate energy requirements and recommended formula intake for an individual infant:

    * Obtain infant's weight in kg. If measurement is taken in pounds, convert ounces to a decimal value of a pound (each ounce is .0625 of a pound) and multiply by .454.

    * Multiply weight in kg by 108 kcal/kg to get estimate of total energy needs.

    * Divide by 20 to get number of ounces of 20 kcal/oz formula.

    Example:

    * Infant weighs 7 pounds 6 ounces.

    * 6 ounces is equal to 6 x .0625 = .375 pound

    * Infant weighs 7.375 pounds or 7.375 x .454 = 3.34 kg

    * 3.34 kg x 108 kcal/kg = 360 kcal total daily energy need

    * 360 kcal/20 kcal per ounce = 18 ounces of formula a day

  6. He'll let you know when he has had enough but i would say 4-5oz but he'll be the judge, congratulations by the way, I had a baby 13 weeks early, and she used to have a couple of ounces every 2 hours or so, every baby is different.

  7. You should ask your health visitor or get information from your child's clinic.  We may be experienced parents and have an idea of the answer but, really, the professionals should guide you...it is their responsibility and yours to ask...don't struggle.
