  1. Extrinsic motivation is doing something to please others and be rewarded.

Intrinsic motivation is doing something for yourself, knowing it is helping you better yourself.

Children generally show no signs of intrinsic motivation until they are 9-10 years old. This is why teachers rely heavily on stickers and rewards in early primary school.

  2. Intrinsically motivated:

Student keeps working hard and doing well even though parents actually yell at student for spending time reading, don't give student any quiet place or time to work, don't give any reward or help moving forward with the achievements and don't even really provide food. Teachers don't notice or care if grades slip several levels or recover.

    Extrinsically motivated:

Student gets good grades because parents offer rewards for doing well, praise them when they sit down to study, provide the right environment, and offer promises of help making the work pay off in the future. If grades slip a level teachers show concern and ask what is wrong and provide attention and feedback and praise when the grades recover.

  3. I agree with dolphin mama.

  4. Extrinsic motivation is something that comes from outside the student- such as candy, or a special toy.  Intrinsic motivation is what comes from inside the student, such as a sense of achievement, pride, and the willingness to continue in the face of frustration.

  5. Me cuz i work hard in my studies so I can get far in life
