HI considering complete overhaul of team’s management
The ongoing situation in Indian hockey, that seemed to be exacerbating day by day, has apparently come to an end, as at last, Hockey India (HI) is considering a complete overhaul in the team’s management.
A particular issue that came to the surface was when the national coach, Harendra Singh tendered his resignation after disappointing performance of the team against Malaysia in the semi-final match of the Asian Games.
After the completion of the Asiad, where India achieved a bronze medal, quite a stink began between Spanish Chief Coach Jose Brasa and Captain of Indian hockey team, Rajpal Singh. The skipper, Rajpal Singh leveled stern charges
against the Spaniard, accusing Brasa of humiliating and disgracing him.
Jose Brasa in reply to the allegations of Rajpal Singh rejected the allegataion of humiliation towards any player and said that no one from the squad was happy with the captaincy of Rajpal Singh, as Prabhjot Singh was the best
option at that time.
The quandary intensified, when former Olympians and players also blasted the Chief Coach Jose Brasa, whose contract expired last week and has not been renewed so far.
An official of Hockey India (HI) said that the management of Indian hockey was displeased with the way the national coach Harendra Singh resigned from his post during the Asian trip. It would not be shocking if whole the management
of Indian Men’s and Women’s hockey teams is overhauled, the official added.
Presently, Secretary General Hockey India, Narinder Batra is visiting Malaysia to attend a meeting of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) and decisions regarding the fate of the team’s management will be taken on December 11th.
The future of Indian hockey seems uncertain, as the contract of Spaniard Jose Brasa will not be renewed while the chances of Harendra Singh on the post of Chief Coach are also thin after his blame-game drama.
The official explained that Hockey India was annoyed with the decisions of Harendra Singh, who firstly resigned and then offered to become sole authority of the team, adding that the next meeting of December 11th would finalize
the modifications of the management.
It is pertinent to mention here that several former players including Ranjan Negi, Jude Felix, Maneyapanda Somaya and Harendra Singh wanted to take the charge of the team.
It is quite a routine practice in Indian Hockey that defeats bring about replacements of Captains, changes in the management and the firing of coaches. Let’s see what upshot is emerged by the recent failure of India hockey team
in the Asiad.
