I have had a positive HIV 1 RNA at 6740 but 4 negative ELISA's and 2 undetermined Western Blots. Is it possible to test negative but still have the virus? I don't understand. I have talked with my doctor and she said that I needed to have another test done at the 6 month mark which is the very end of October. I am very confused....do I have HIV or not?

  1. You could have the virus, but test negative, if you test too soon after you get infected.  It can take 3 months, or in rare cases, up to 6 months, for antibodies to show up in tests.

Take your doctor's advice.  Retest  at the 6 month mark.

  2. Take your doctors advice and return for your retest in october... Whether or not you have the virus it is best to know. Only a doctor can tell you if you have the virus or not. Wish you the best, and pray you are not positive.
