Im driving a route in the city in the mornings. Im only getting about 23 miles to the gallon. I took it to the dealer and they ran test and said nothings wrong. Any guess from someone who has a hybrid.

  1. Best guess: you are accelerating to quickly, and using the brakes too hard.

Note: unless you alter your driving style to suit the hybrid, your mileage will be worse than a conventional Honda Civic, because of the extra weight the hybrid is hauling around in the battery pack and electric motor.

Read the owners manual, and the links below.

Accelerate slowly (no jack rabbit starts) so that the electric motor does all the work accelerating.  Cruise at a constant speed.  Come to a stop gently so that there will be maximum regenerative braking to charge the batteries.

Try to minimize your maximum speed and maximize your minimum speed.

  2. look up hyper mileage.  i can get up to about 38 mpg on my 2008 toyota corolla le.  its just the way you drive the car and what you got going on.

  3. all a hybrid is is a vehicle that has two or more sources of fuel... so big deal. you are not getting good mileage nor will you just because you purchased an automobile factory manufactured vehicle... they are engineered to NOT give great mileage soooooooooooooo that you will use more gasoline and sooooooooo your engine will become congested with sludge etc and eventually you will need more frequent servicing and then down the road... another car... if you want the best mileage like 100MPG and more you should drop me a line...

  4. The best buy is the Honda Civic GX Model.

Bad news is that it is only sold in California and New York.

This means most folks get shafted with a lousy hybrid.

Honda sells a pump with GX so reader can fuel at home if

so desired.  The Federal Goverment is replacing its petrol

fleets with same off-the-shelf technology system.  Best of all

the fuel is piped throughout most of North America already.

Both Canada and USA are largest EXPORTERS of same,

a fact Honda isn't ignoring, like Detroit tech' keeps doing.
