My fiance and I are planning a mini honeymoon right after our wedding in late september and taking a longer one later... we are kinda looking for great areas to visit for a few days around like the great lakes... neither of us know the area real well so would like some great ideas from you all if you can help!!!! :) we are kinda looking for places to see the lake at more private locations and also cheaper really nice places to stay... maybe places to walk, a ferry or other type of boating, waterfalls, and of course a beach along the great lakes! we are coming from iowa, so something around the geat lakes near here would be amazing!!! so if ya'all could help i'd appreciate it!! :)

  1. It depends on how far north you want to travel.  I would highly recommend visiting Michigan's Upper Peninsula along Lake Superior.  The scenery is stunning and Tahquamenon Falls are beautiful, plus the state park has some lovely trails.  The only problem is that it might be a bit chilly in the UP, so the Lower Peninsula may be a slightly better choice, but the hotel rates are higher and it's further for you to travel.

Door County in Wisconsin is lovely as well and there are number of B&B's in that region as well.  Whatever you do, I would honestly stay north of Milwaukee on the Wisconsin side.  Northern Lake Michigan is gorgeous and much less populated than the area around Milwaukee and Chicago.

    Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can get much information in this website, stay a minute in website and check anyone link at a time, you can aslo get your answer in Google Search in this website, which has helped me alot

  3. Start with a night downtown Chicago and enjoy some sight-seeing, like a museum or festival.

Then travel the wineries and B&B's up Michigan's west coast up to Mackinac Island.  Mackinac is cute and car free (carefree too!).  The Grand Hotel is classic, and horse-carriages and biking is fun.

The beaches along the west coast are perhaps the most beautiful in the states...

Oh, late September--not great for swimming.  The UP might already be getting some fall color, so perhaps some time up there would be pretty.  You can get to Mackinac that way too.

  4. Western New York is beautiful. There is Lake Ontario (as well as Niagra falls), but I would suggest the finger lakes region. They have BEAUTIFUL scenery, lots to do (hiking, shopping, Visiting cities) And the wine tours here are phenomenal! Check it out, i think it would be a beautiful place for a september vacation!
