  3. Unfortunately, I purchased an angelfish several months ago with fin rot, not realizing at the time.  I will tell you in my experience - it is highly contagious.  I would isolate your sick fish immediately from the others.  I ended up with with 3 angels that got fin rot from the new one within a matter of a day.  I had luck treating mine with a fungus eliminator.  I treated the tank to wipe out the infection.  There are several brands - I happened to use one made by Jungle because that is what my local fish store recommended.  It did turn my water yellowish, but it won't hurt anything.  Just make sure to take the carbon out of your filter whichever med. you try.  They also sell a medication that you put directly on the damaged fins of the fish.  In your case, since the fin rot sounds severe, I would purchase a medication like this - your local fish store should carry it and show you how it works.  Make sure to treat your tank with the fungus eliminator in case other fish are infected.  I believe that fin rot can be caused by several things - it's a fungus I think.  It can be bad water conditions, an injury on the fins from being nipped by another fish, it can be introduced into the tank with a new purchase.  Please act quickly - in my angel - this disease had taken almost all of his long back fin within a few hours.  Good luck!!

  4. First, isolate the infected fish as fin rot is highly contagious. If the fin rot has reached the base of the fin, it is too late. Try asking a veterinarian if there are better products than you can get from a pet store.
