  1. answer number 2 has it spot on but although it is a popular bet i think its a silly bet because you could get 5 33/1 winners and not win anything

  2. The tote Placepot is one of the most popular totepool bets as it is a bet that gives those that play a lot of entertainment every afternoon or evening for a very small investment as you select 6 horse to come in the placed in each of the 6 placepot races and this is far easier than having to pick the winner in each race which is known as the Jackpot.

How to place a bet on the Tote Placepot

To participate in the tote placepot you will need to abide by the following guidelines and rules:

The Minimum Placepot stake is £1 increasing by 10p after that. However, 10p perm bets can be accepted if the total bet = £1. ie 10 lines at 10p.

A toteplacepot bet can be accepted daily at every British horse race meeting. It consists of selecting a placed horse in all 6 toteplacepot races at your selected meeting. The toteplacepot races will always be the first 6 races unless otherwise stated.

Bets are accepted up to the first race and dividends are declared after the last toteplacepot race.

Any bets placed on a non-runner will be replaced by the Starting Price favourite. Where there are joint favourites, the joint favourite with the lowest racecard number will be taken. If the favourite is withdrawn before coming under Starters Orders and too late for a new favourite to be made, the horse returned at the next shortest price will be taken. Where two or more horses are returned at the next shortest price, the one with the lowest racecard number will be taken. If no Starting Price is returned the first actual runner quoted in the Racing Post betting forecast will be taken. Should the Racing Post not publish a betting forecast, settlement will be made in line with Tote Racecourse Cash Rules. In the event of a pool being cancelled bets for the pool concerned will be void.

If the racecard number of an overnight declared runner is allocated to a reserve horse, the reserve horse will be re-numbered sequentially in line with tote racecourse cash rules.

If a totepool betting race is a walkover, is not run or is declared void, the pool(s) will operate on the remaining specified tote races. In this event total stakes on permutation entries are applied in full to the remaining races.

  3. straight wins are the way to profit

  4. The brief answer is .........   The Plaecpot is a Pool.    All money staked (less a Tote commission), is put in the Pool.   This is then shared amongst the winners of the Placepot.

The more winners - the less you will get.

I imagine many of the placed horses in your bet were Favs. or 2nd. Favs.    To be sure of a big Divi. you need to include a few outsiders.   In actual fact, the divi.  you received was good.   Very often at small meetings, you can look at £5 to £10.

I have just looked - your meeting was Chepstow.   As I said, most places were Favs. or 2nd. Favs.  Also a couple were Odds On.

Hey !!!   £21 for £1 is not bad.   That is a 20-1 winner.   Up your stakes.   Good luck.
