2. my second question is also when i look at some race cards underneath the card and betting it sometimes names a horse and says long handicap so what does long handicap mean ?

thankyou i would just like to point out i dont gamble but want to learn the horse racing industry inside out.

  1. Shops and bookmakers share liabilities often, the office will send money to track to lay off,....Handicapping is putting the most weight on best horse and least on worst,in theory they should pass the line all together.......Best tip yes form your own opinions..Unless you go to track or know people who work, own or train horses,it can be hard to know condition of horse,or future plans......Do not be intimidated by opinions of the crowd gotta got against the crowd..The Newspapers considering they work all day and have great faculties are not full of really clever people..Yes good racing journo,s but lot of rubbish touted, bit like on here...FORM YOUR OWN OPINIONS

  2. The main thing you need to know about the horseracing industry,is that it is corrupt.

  3. The figures at the bottom of the form are 'reported bets' from the rail Bookmakers, it may look like £4500-£1000, which means, bet was taken for £1000 with a potential return of £4500, so in this case it was laid at 9-2.

The long Handicap you refer to is when a horse is supposed to carry a weight like 9-0 (stones and pounds) but they were unable to get a jockey of the right weight, so it may be carrying extra weight.

I hope I have been of some use to you.

  4. i think it means the horse is handicapped at the top weight

  5. the big bookmakers lay off bets palced in their shops. this is called office money. if alot of money is placed on a horse in the shop they stand to lose, so they also bet on the horse on-course.. this has two effects it wins them money and also shortens the starting price, the SP.

in handicaps horses are alotted weights acordding to their ability.. in flat racing the bottom weight, i think is 7stone 10lbs..

so if in the long handicap a horse is alloted a weight of say 7 stone 2 lbs.. it is classed as being out of the handicap by 8lbs.. so it's carrying 8lbs more than it should as it has to carry 7 stone 10lbs to race.. horse out of the handicap are a poor bet....

  6. Handicapping Horses is cruel !

Why should we condem a horse to a life time in a wheelchair just so we cam gamble on them ?

  7. ok the first part of your question are bets placed on the course so a bet of £700 pound was placed and 2 bets of £200 pounds was placed if it says including office money it means from betting offices not the racing post office. the second part of your question means the horse is carrying more weight than it should do for its official rating because it is out of the handicap

  8. 1.The bets mentioned are placed at the course where race took place, office money just means bets in bookmakers shops too i.e ladbrokes, corals

    2. Long handicap means the horse/s in question have a handicap mark below the bottom so if say in a jumps race the long handicap on a horse is 9'11, it 'should be running with 9'11 on its back but it actually has 10st so it's 3lbs worse off than what it 'really' should be

  9. you tekkin the p**s?that was bets that bookies told the journalists had been bet by joe public, long handicap means on his current rating he is carrying more weight than he should but is doing so because the owners and the trainer thinks he can.eg;he carries 8 stone,it is because the race rules for that particular race state that its the minimum weight allowed for that particular race.under the racecard it states what weight the horse would be carrying based on his current rating(form he's had from previous races.)

  10. It is bent as h**l. You need GENUINE INSIDE information if you are to win when betting on horses.
