Question:

HOUSTON...we have a Problem...need some help ladies!!

I just went to make formula for my son and "Oh c**p"...only 7 scoops of formula left!! I need to make at least 3 bottles (and one is 8 oz) so I need at least 8 scoops of formula. Obviously this is only to get through the night, I will buy more in the morning!!

In my excitement of finding out I;m going to be an Auntie to a new nephew, I spent the day with my SIL and forgot to go get the formula, and of course I noticed this at 9:55 and the store closes at 10!!!

I have 1 bottle left that I made last night at around 11:30, do you think it would be ok to use that one for his first night feeding (anywhere between 1 am and 3 am)? Or should I just water down one bottle or what? The third option is to make the best batch I can with the 7 scoops (so just under 2 cups) and top it off with the bottle I have in one bottle (which would be the first feeding)

God I;m stupid, I've never forgotten before and ALWAYS have an extra can ready....

Any advice would be appreciated!! I will be going to the store asap in the morning to get more and make the remainder of the batch!!

Thanks so much!!!!!!!

  1. You should never use formula that's been made for more than 4 hours.

  2. Divide the scoops evenly between all the bottles. That way one won't be watered down as much. Besides, it shouldn't be that big of a difference.

  3. In a pinch I think it would be fine to use the bottle from last night. But I wouldn't mix it in with all the other milk. Water down the last one, because if you water it all down and he doesn't like it, then you are really out of luck. Good luck!

  4. I wouldn't use the old formula from last night.

Water down what you have for as many feedings as you need to get through the night. It's one night of slightly less nutrition so I'm sure baby will be fine. ;)

  5. As long as the bottle has been refrigerated properly, it can last for a week.  Also, I would make the bottles as normal and then have the one that's watered down.  I think it would be better to have one watered down one that 3 that are watered down slightly.  But thats just me.  Other than that, have a friend pick up some formula at Walgreens.

  6. The best thing you could do is take the 7 scoops that you have and divide them evenly between the 3 bottles, add the same amount of water that you would if you had the correct amount of powder and shake them up.  The baby wont know if part of a scoop is missing from his bottles, and I'm sure one scoop less of formula powder isn't going to starve him.  If you are still worried about it then give him a little extra in the morning.  Good luck I hope everything works out.

  7. It wont hurt the baby if he drinks somw watered down formula. Just divide them and he will be fine.

  8. Although I don't think there would be anything wrong with the one you made last night; I would probably make up the 7 scoops and then top it off with the bottle already made. Hope this helps. Good luck!

  9. First of all...you're human, not stupid.

Honestly, I don't think using the bottle from last night is going to cause any harm whatsoever. It's only a *few* hours difference. If it were four days old, I'd say toss it in a heartbeat, but it's not. As long as it was properly prepared in a clean bottle with clean utensils, and has been properly preserved in the refrigerator...it should be fine.

    Good luck.

  10. II agreee with the other person who said "you are human not stupid.) You were excited...and it's not like you forgot to feed him for an entire day, or forgot to change him out of a stinky diaper for 7 hours.... You simply forgot to double check the formula... it's honestly no big deal, especially since you have a bottle left over.

I would use the one you made last night... It's simply a few hours old... that's no big deal! It hasn't been sitting out on the counter for the entire day, nor has it been in the sun for 3 hours...

Every parent makes mistakes and is entitled. You didn't make ome huge life changing catastrophic mistake... you made a "ehhh...suck, but no biggie really" mistake. I forgot my sons diaper bag when we were on our way to florida... that was an oopsy, but I was able to buy diapers and wipes in the airport and it was an early flight so he slept the entire time until we got to florida and could by formula... (But after spending $25 on a pack of 12 diapers and a small package of wipes I'll never do it again. LOL!)

It's a harmless mistake really so don't beat yourself up over it...
