Ok i lov thos old school bikes they have that bobber chopper frame on them with the 36 degree forks witht the small 1970's style gas tank witht he v-twin engine that sounds like a horse gallup. with the low end spring seat and the ape hangers. i want to build the bike on my own and i want to find a website who makes and sells frames, engines, trans etc. I dont have much of a mechanical background but i do know a little and i have a friend who is a recent reired mechanic. How much would it cost to build your own bike?

  1. Probably be cheaper to buy one but that's not much fun is it? If you don't know that much about mechanical things you might look into finding one you can restore, it would be a lot cheaper and still you could finish it how you like it and still have all the fun of building it, if you would like to do that check craigslist, you can  probably find a bobber or something that needs restoring (of all different degrees, from allmost done to pretty much everything needs to be replaced). Or if you still want to build your own, try ebay and do a search on google looking for frames, you might just find one you like. Good luck!

  2. depends on if you want a diecast one or a legit one..a diecast one runs for $15 at walmart but a legit one is $13000 for a new harley

    hope this helped!!

  3. You could start with a kit bike.  They put all the parts together for you so you don't have to worry about things fitting.  Other than that, I would say the way to go is to buy a used bike that runs, and turn it into what you want.  Buy an old panhead and fix it up.  Or an old Sportster.  That way, you will have something to ride in between working on it.

  4. not including paint you could go ol school like my panhead for about 12,000 dollars.

  5. how far into it do you want to go? join up on www.jockeyjournal.com and you can find loads of info on how to build somthing yourself, there are hundreds of companys that make frames, motors etc.

flyrite is a good place to start you can pick up a roller for under 3k,its totally possible to build a stunning rider for under 6k

  6. If I am reading your mind correctly. I would go to craigslist.org or the local buy and sell papers and look for a true old school bike. Harleys are cool but so are old triumphs and the honda 750's! I've purchased to triumph chops the past 2 years and neither went for over 2 grand! Tinkered with them, rode 'em and sold 'em for double! Do a image search on these bikes, You will like what you see!
