  3. New policy in China-all new Z visa applicants must get visa from home country.  Unless you can afford to fly here on a business visa, look for a job and then fly back to apply (or hope that by then the policy has changed), it may be best to look on-line.  It is hard though b/c some schools will promise the moon and only give you a handful of rocks.  Check out Dave's ESL cafe forums as many foreigners have posted bad school or English centre names or contact info.

  4. What do you want to do?  Teaching English is definitely the biggest market.  You can look on www.eslcafe.com for teaching jobs all over China.

As mentioned in a previous answer, you apply directly with the company (for any type of job) and they will contact you for an interview.  You will usually apply for a tourist visa in your home country first, and the company which hires you will provide you with a working visa and residents permit when you arrive.

I actually live in Shanghai and work in human resources.  If you find the right company, the process is really quick (days, not months).

  5. Typically you must be sponsored with an employer.  Check out this website to see if there are any jobs for which you qualify.

If you see something,  apply as directed.  If the employer is interested, they contact you to interview (usually by phone), and if they want you they will make sponsorship arrangements.  You will need a Passport and a Visa, and some shots for various health risks.

The whole process takes 2-4 months if all goes as anticipated.
