HI , I need to have some way of having a bolt slide in and out of a slot by about 2.5mm.

The bolt is 6mm diameter and the head of the bolt is bout 12mm diameter.

I was thinking along lines of a wave washer, spring washer (belleville washer) or something like that, but these are really hard to come by.

What can I use to fit between the bolt and the slot it fits into??

Best answer is one that either offers a new idea that is practical or finds me a wave washer to fit, with a compression of 2.5 mm!!

Thanks 1000000

  1. inside transformers they use spring or cresent shaped washers, and set them to 70Nm, if it is simpler than that, then a washer either side of the nut and bolt should suffice

  2. Don't understand, you are trying to make a bolt do the opposite of what it was designed for, to be tight and hold things together!

Does the bolt have a nut on it? how tight is it to be? Why not put two nuts on the bolt and tighten them against each other so that you have your gap?

    .

  3. Sandwich some neoprene between two plain washers.

  4. grind opposing sides of the bolt head down so its width is 2.5 mm, slip it into the slot and revole it 90 degrees.  this method is also used to mount a toilet bowl to its mounting ring during installation.
